Friends Dinner Dr. William Haber, pro- fessor of economics at the University of Michigan and special adviser to the uni- versity's executive officers, will receive the S.Y. Agnon Gold Medal at a dinner on behalf of the Hebrew Uni- versity of Jerusalem at 6:30 p.m. May 31 at Cong. Shaarey Zedek. The Michi- gan Chapter, American Friends of Hebrew Univer- sity, is the sponsor of the dinner. The S.Y. Agnon Gold Medal Award is named for Israel's first Nobel laureate, Shmuel Yosef Agnon and is awarded to distinguished lay leaders and public fig- ures who have made out- standing contributions to the cultural, educational or intellectual life in the United States and Israel. The medal is Hebrew Uni- versity's most prestigious award. Professor of economics at the University of Michigan since 1936, Dr. Haber has also served as chairman of that department, was dean of the College of Literature, Science and the Arts, the largest academic unit of the university and in 1968 was appointed by the board of regents to act as special ad- viser to the executive offi- cers of the university. His graduate work was done at Harvard Univer- sity and the University of Wisconsin and he holds a PhD degree from the lat- ter institution.
