Youth News

ADAT SHALOM youth
services for age 3 through
12th grade meet every
Saturday at 10 a.m. The
Shoresh group will have an
oneg Shabat 8 p.m. today at

the home of Yariv Houvras,
7355 Camelot, West Bloom-
field. For directions, call
Yariv, 661-0173.
On Sunday, Shoresh and
Migdal Tzion will partici-

pate in the Israel Indepen-
dence Day parade at the
Jewish Community Center.
Marchers should meet at
the Center between 11:30
a.m. and noon. Migdal Tzion

will have a hot dog booth at
the Center. Volunteers
should call Hadas Reiter,
855-9865.
Migdal Tzion will play
volleyball 6 p.m. Sunday at
the Akiva Hebrew Day
School.
The Youth Choir will re-
sume rehearsals 7:30 p.m.
Monday in Cantor Berris'
office. At 2 p.m. May 15,
Shoresh will hold elections,
open to fifth through eighth
graders. Following elec-
tions, movies will be shown.
Migdal Tzion will hold elec-
tions 2:30 p.m. May 15.

The Atid group (ages 5-7)

bring a dairy lunch.

4-13 are held ever Shabat.

High School Seniors Cited
by Jewish Women's League

The League of Jewish
Women's Organizations of
Greater Detroit honored 16
Jewish high school seniors
who excelled scholastically,
demonstrated leadership
ability, participated in
community or service
organizations, and had a
formal religious education,
at the 38th annual youth
awards program Sunday at
Temple Emanu-El.
Each applicant was re-
quired to submit an essay on
the subject, "The Chosen
People — Who, Me?" The
honorees were: Elizabeth
Alpern, Jonathan Berlin,
Amy Bigman, Felissa Sue
Burns, Jeffrey Chajes, Lori
Goldberg, Avery Goldstein,
Susan A. Grekin, Rodney .
Klein, Elliot Maness, Les-
ley Miller, Eric Rosenberg,
Eva Tugman, Julie Weil,
Karen Zeff and Allison
Zousmer.
Special awards were pre-

sented by Martin Citrin,
former recipient of a youth
award, to Elizabeth Alpern,
Felissa Sue Burns and
Susan A. Grekin. The panel
of judges was comprised of
Margot Klein, president of
League of Jewish Women's
Organizations; Dr. Maxwell
Nadis, assistant principal of
Detroit Noble Middle
School; Marilyn Schakne,
immediate past president of
League of Jewish Women's
Organizations; and Arnold
Weiner, director, Bnai
Brith Youth Organization.
Rabbi Lane Steinger of
Temple Emanu-El was the
guest -speaker. The invoca-
tion was given by the Sis-
terhood President, Shon-
nette Weisman. Vice
President of the League and
Youth Awards Chairman is
Charlotte Edelheit. Her
Co-Chairmen were Carol
Coskey and Blanche
Mindlin.

BBYO Activities

BBYO will participate in
the Israel Independence
Day Parade Sunday at the
main Jewish Community
