Jewish Women's League to Honor
Goldie Adler at Annual Installation

Goldie Adler will be hon-
ored for her lifelong service
to the community" at the
56th annual installation of
the League of Jewish
Women's Organizations of
Greater Detroit slated to
take place 12:15 p.m. May 5
at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Cake and coffee will be
served. There is a nominal
charge.
Born and educated in
New York, Mrs. Adler
taught English and Hebrew
before her marriage. She
came to Detroit in 1938 with
her husband, the late Rabbi
Morris Adler, who was the
spiritual leader of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek.
Since coming to De-
troit, Mrs. Adler has
taught the Bible to adult
classes and has been a
book reviewer and lec-
turer.

Women's Division of the De-
troit Round Table of the Na-
tional Conference of Chris-

tians and Jews and of the
Women's Division of the
Jewish Welfare Federation,
she also served on many
boards of educational and
philanthropic organiza-
tions. At present she also is
a member of the board of the
Sinai Hospital Guild and
the Southfield Arts Council,
Brandeis University and is
a past president of Hadas-
sah.

Conservative Women's Unit
to Meet in Grand Rapids

hold its 1983 spring confer-
•ence May 3 and 4 at Cong.
Ahavas Israel, 2727 Michi-
gan Ave. N.E., Grand
= Rapids. Theme for the con-
ference will be "Get Wis-
dom, Gain Understanding."
Keynote speaker will be
Phyllis Haas, national par-
liamentarian, who will ad-
dress the conference on
"Getting Involved."
Mrs. Haas was graduated
from the University of
Pennsylvania with a BA
degree in psychology. She
has been president of the
Pennsylvania Branch of the
women's league, national
vice president, program
chairman and a member of
the Torah Fund Cabinet.
She is a member of the
Ramah Commission and
the Delaware Valley
Region of the United

Cheese Cake

11/2 lbs. of cream cheese
3 eggs, separated
1 /4 cup flour
1 cup yogurt (vanilla, lemon or
plain)•
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
CRUST
20 graham crackers
4 tbsps, margarine, melted
Place graham crackers in
blender or food processor and
grind into crumbs. Combine
crumbs with melted mar-
• garine. Press into bottom and
side of a 9-inch spring form
• pan.
Beat cheese, egg yolks,
flour, yogurt and sugar for 20
minutes in an electric mixer.
Start on low speed and in-
crease to medium, scraping
bowl often. Add vanilla. Beat
egg whites until stiff. Fold
them into cheese mixture.
Pour over graham cracker
crust. Bake at 325 degrees for
1 hour. Open oven door, cool
for one half hour. Top with
cherry pie filling.

Humanities Award, the
Lady of Mercy Award from
Mt. Carmel Hospital and in
June 1974, the Solomon
Schechter Award from the
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary, the Israel Bond
Award and Jewish National
Fund Award.
Blanche Bauman, im-
mediate past president of
the Bnai Brith Women's
Council of Metropolitan De-
troit and treasurer of Adat
Shalom Sisterhood, will
give the invocation.
"Israel As An Interna-
tional Bad Guy: The Con-
sequences of Being a
Pariah" will be the topic
of guest speaker, Zvi Y.
Gitelman, professor of
political science and di-
rector of the Center for
Russian and East Euro-
pean Studies at the Uni-
versity of Michigan.
The public is welcome. No
