that Sam Boesky is laid to
rest, it brings to mind some
nostalgic memories that
hark back to the early days
of the great depression. It
started back in 1929 when I
first began to work for the
Boesky brothers' restaurant
and delicatessen on the
corner of Twelfth St. and
Hazelwood.
"This great humanita-
rian with his four brothers,
Bill, Harry, Sol and Abe,
elected to open a soup line in
front of the Twelfth Street
store from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
for the unemployed and de-

would have starved other-
wise (there were no unem-
ployment benefits or Social
Security then).

his ups and downs, but he

WJC Report
Tracks Nazi
War Criminals

LONDON H The three
highest ranking Nazi offi-
cials whose whereabouts
are still unknown - Martin
Bormann, Heinrich Muller
and Richard Gluecks - are
"now most probably dead,"
according to a WJC (World
Jewish Congress) study,
prepared by its London-
based research arm, the In-
stitute of Jewish Affairs.
The study examines the
current status of Nazi war
criminals - how many are
still being sought and what
efforts are being made to
bring such people to account
in the countries where they
now live. It details the more
infamous fugitives still at
large and gives short biog-
raphical notes and the es-
cape stories of 27 Nazis.
The report describes pro-
ceedings against suspected
Nazi criminals in the
United States and looks at
the work of the Office of
Special Investigations. The
WJC study was prepared for
the institute by Michael
May.

NY Hasidim
Impoverished

NEW YORK (JTA) - A
Philadelphia rabbi told a
conference in Philadelphia
at which a new National
Association of Boards of
Rabbis was organized that a
recent study in New York
City had found that Hasidic
Jews ranked only slightly
,* „above blacks and Hispanics
in poverty levels.
Rabbi Robert Layman,
treasurer of Philadelphia's
Board of Rabbis, com-
mented that the report
"punctures a hole in the
)- myth of Jewish affluence."
