Golda Meir's Life Featured at Beth El Dinner Theater

The Married Group and
program committee of Tem-
ple Beth El will sponsor a
;-D dinner-theater production
of "Momma Golda," the
Golda Meir story, 6:30 p.m.
April 16 in the temple.
The two-person show, an
adaptation of the Broadway
production "Golda," by
William Gibson, features
husband and wife duo Peter
Frye and Thelma Ruby.
Since her move to Israel
in 1970, Miss Ruby has ap-
peared in English program
series on Israeli educational
television. She also returns
to London frequently to star
in West End theaters and on
television. Recent English
shows have included roles
in Noel Coward's "Cowardly

Angels," "A Funny Thing
Happened on the Way to the
Forum."
Born and educated in
England, she attended
the Julia Richman High
School and Finch College
in New York, and later
Yale University's Drama
School.
She has appeared in Lon-
don in starring roles in
"Cabaret," "Stop the World
I Want to Get Off," "Once
Upon a Mattress." She also
toured Britain in "Fiddler
on the Roof."
Frye's life and work as an
actor and director began in
Canada, moved to the
United States, where he fol-
lowed his theatrical career
for 18 years, then to
England, where he married
Miss Ruby. In Israel, where
the Fryes live, he is profes-
sor of theater arts in a de-
partment he founded in
1958 at Tel Aviv Univer-
sity.

Dr. Hertzel Fishman, a
member of the Jerusalem
Executive of the Jewish
Agency of Israel, will be the
guest speaker at Sabbath
morning services at Cong.
Beth Achim on April 16.
He will also appear at a
special Yom Ha'Atzmaut
(Israel Independence Day)
celebration 7:45 p.m. April
17 at Beth Achim which will
be sponsored jointly by the
congregation and the
Jabotinsky Society of Herut
Zionists of America.
Prior to immigrating to
Israel, Dr. Fishman served
a number of American con-
gregations as rabbi. In addi-
tion to holding a doctorate
in political science, Dr.

Fishman was ordained at
the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America. After
making his home in Israel
he was on the staff of the
foreign affairs ministry.
He has published several
volumes in Hebrew and
English on contemporary
Israeli problems. He was
appointed to his present
post on the Jewish Agency
Executive by the World
Council of Synagogues.

Peter Frye and Thelma Ruby will appear in
"Momma Golda," the Golda Meir story, April 16 at
Temple Beth El.

He directed "Family
Business" by Dick
Goldberg, - Tennessee
Williams' "The Glass
Menagerie," and many
other plays for Habima,
Ohel and other Israeli
theaters. He has also played
a wide variety of featured
roles — e.g., Pontius Pilate
in the Genesis Project film
on "Life of Jesus" and as co-
star in the film "The
Sellout."
Mr. Frye began his act-
ing career at the age of 14
in a semi-professional
Yiddish company in his
native Montreal. He later
received training in act-
ing in New York from
such teachers as Harold
Clurman, Lee Strasberg,
Elia Kazan and Erwin
Piscator, and appeared
on Broadway.
In 1949, he received an
invitation to direct Israel's
Kameri Theater; in 1952 he
emigrated fully, with a con-
tract to write and produce
Israel's major full-length
film "Hill 24 Doesn't An-
swer."
