Steinberg, president of the Jewish Home for Aged, announces that Sylvia Serwin, current assistant executive director of the agency, will assume the role of associate director and will be in charge of the new Fleischman Residence and Blumberg Plaza com- plex currently under con- struction in West Bloom- field. Serwin has actively ad- ministered at the home's Prentis Manor, Borman Hall and Petoskey facilities during her 17 years with the agency. She is vice president of the Michigan League for Nursing as well as vice president of the board of di- rectors of the Shapero School of Nursing of Sinai Hospital. Steinberg also an- nounced that Stephen Roizen, currently assis- tant executive director of the home will also be made associate director, with responsibility for Borman Hall operations and fiscal management of the entire agency. Roizen came to the Home in 1981 from Virginia where he was director of the Bureau of Cost Settlement and Audit for Virginia's Medicaid Program. He earned his master's degree in health services and hospital administration at Tulane University in New Orleans, La. His back- ground includes work in health care administration as well as public policy and public administraton. Cheryl Riskin and Cindy Weingarden have both been promoted to assistant direc- tors of the home. Riskin came to the NEW ISSUE home in 1975 as director of programming, and has administered the Prentis Manor facility for 21/2 years. She received a master's degree from Wayne State University and is a licensed nursing home administrator. She has had extensive ex- perience in the develop- ment of multi-media pre- sentations for the home and the community. Weingarden has been di- rector of planning and de- sign of the new Fleischman Residence. Her academic back- ground includes a master's degree in education and gerontology from the Uni- versity of Michigan, where she was affiliated with its Institute of Gerontology. Miss Weingarden's respon- sibility will be planning and coordination of community-based services for the home. Charles S. Israel's Security Needs Cited NEW YORK — Follow- ing the Six-Day War in 1967, the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff responded to a query from the Secretary of De- fense to assess Israel's secu- rity needs. The Joint Chiefs replied, in a memo that was kept secret until it was recently released: "From a strictly military I fi"'L"'"I'- 'Ant., Ming WOW point of view, Israel would require their retention of some captured territories in order to provide militarily defensible borders."
