On the track of Chuck
Muer ... here's some-
thing that has all the
makings of a great fish
story ... a fish called
"Slippery Charlie,"
worth $50,000 . . . another
fish worth $25,000 ... yet
another, $10,000 ... and
17 more fish worth $500
each ... all swimming
free in the St. Clair River
for anyone to try and
hook, April 23 ... It's a
fisherman's dream, and
you can bet there'll be
plenty of them out there
... from kids with barn-
boo poles to entire fishing
clubs with sophisticated
equipment.
It's the fifth year for the
annual River Crab Salmon
Stakes, held at the C.A.
Muer Corp.'s River Crab
restaurant in St. Clair,
Mich. ... Fishing clubs
from all over Bluewater
Country will gather at the
River Crab in the wee hours
of the morning of April 23 to
go after Slippery Charlie
and friends ... The clubs
will also be competing with
each other in various fish-
ing contests that same day
. plus Mr. & Mrs. Public
being invited to join in the
attempt to hook Slippery
Charlie.
Anyone who wants to
drop a hook in the St. Clair
River then is welcome to
participate ... Slippery
Charlie and his friends
must be caught within the
hours of 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. on
April 23 ... At 1 to 3 p.m.,
the fishermen begin to
bring in their catch for the
weigh-in. Two scales will be
available in the parking lot
of the River Crab.
A number of other events
will also be going on in the
River Crab parking lot
April 23 . . . in an effort to
increase the general pub-
lic's participation . . . For
the first time, a fish boil will
be done, free to the public
. . . The fish boil involves
dropping chunks of fish in a
bubbling cauldron ... then
eaten as an appetizer .. .
with other refreshments
also available in the park-
ing lot.
American Motors will
have the official Grand
Prix pace car on display,
along with entry blanks
to win the auto, turbo-
charged AMC Fuego ...
There will be numerous
fish-related exhibitions
and demonstrations in
the parking lot all day .. .
including a fishing
equipment display, a fish
fileting demonstration
and fish cleaning tables
... plus a children's fish-
ing contest for those 12
and under.
Besides the attempts to
catch Slippery Charlie and
the other fishing contests
going on that day, there will
be events for the non-
fisherman . . . A "Guess the
Weight" contest invites the
public to guess the weight of
the largest fish caught dur-
ing the tourney April 23, in
pounds and ounces.
The other one, "The
Great Fish Story," is de-
signed for those who are
good with a pen and
paper . . . Participants
will describe, in 50 words
or less, their "best fish
story" . . . to be judged
April 23 at the River Crab
... Entry forms for "The
Great Fish Story" will be
available at all C.A. Muer
Restaurants prior to
April 23.
The tagging of Slippery
Charlie and his fine-finned
friends will be done closer to
the Salmon Stakes than in
previous years . . . increas-
ing the chances that some
lucky fisherman will hook
the monied fish . . . The tag-
ging will be done April 12
. . . Fishermen from Blue-
water Sportfishing Associa-
tion will spend several
hours catching the fish to be
tagged . . . Tagging will be
supervised by representa-
tives from Michigan De-
partment of Natural Re-
sources, Bluewater
Sportfishing Association
and the C.A. Muer Corp.
The River Crab Salmon
Stakes are the culmination
of a whole Salmon Month
promotion running at the
River Crab . . . Chef Larry,
Chuck Muer's corporate
chef, has created several
salmon dishes to be featured
from April 11 to May 7 at
the River Crab.
ANSWERS
TO
QUERIES ... Speaking of
Chef Larry, his real name is
Loreto A. "Larry" Pagliara.
"YOU KNOW WHAT I
like about you? You're strict
but you're reasonable" .
How do you like those
apples coming out the
mouth of a 10-year-old
youngster? . . . This is Peter
Ginopolis talking to dad
John Ginopolis . . . And
what other 10-year-old kid
do you know who loves read-
ing biographies more than
anything else . . . and with a
passion?
Young Peter was with
9-year-old sister Jennifer,
who shared equal time be-
tween eating a pizza and
reading about Garfield the
cat . . . and their mother
Marion . . . at the very popu-
lar Ginopolis' owned by the
children's dad, John, and
their Uncle Peter ... on 12

give us plenty of enjoyable
company while there re-
cently.
As usual, enough autos on
the lot could open one of
those overcrowded used car
operations . . . But the valet
guys do a good job . . . and so
no fender bumping,
scratches or brake squeal-
ing.
Just went there for a
snack ... and to watch
the people ... they're so
interesting ... in this
lavish but intimate
8,000-square-foot setting
that has taken off like
