Libyan Exile
Thanks Israel

GENEVA (JTA) — Salem
Werfelli, a Libyan in exile,
has written a letter of
thanks to the Israeli Am-
bassador to the United Na-
tions here, Ovadia Soffer,
for exposing the brutality of
the regime of Libyan ruler
Muammar Qaddafi.
Werfelli expressed his
appreciation of the UN
Human Rights -Commis-
sion, listing the violations of
human rights in Libya
under Qaddafi.
"No other country has
voiced such a protest
against the barbaric prac-
tices in wide use in Libya,"
Werfelli wrote.

Bnai Brith Einstein
Lodge and Chapter mem-
bers will honor Norman
Adelsberg at their annual
State of Israel Bonds
Dinner-Dance, 6 p.m. April
24 at Cong. Beth Shalom, it
was announced by Jack
Seiderman, lodge president
and Sima Yarsike, chapter
president.
Adelsberg will be pre-
sented with the State of Is-
rael's New Life Award, a
special tribute honoring
Jews who survived the
Holocaust, have re-built
their lives and now partici-
pate in the up-building of
Israel through the Israel
Bond program.
A native of Poland,
Adelsberg was 20 when he
was incarcerated in Mauth-
ausen Concentration Camp.
He was liberated three
years later, in 1945. His two
brothers also survived the
Holocaust, but his two sis-
ters and his parents did not.
Adelsberg spent the
next four years in the
displaced persons camp
at Bergen-Belsen. It was
there he met and married
his wife of 35 years, Fay.
A daughter, Marjorie,
was born in Bergen-
Belsen.

They immigrated to the
United States and to De-
troit, in 1949. Two more
daughters were born:
Nancy, who now lives in
Edmonton, Canada, and
Sandra, now of New York.
Marjorie lives in Southfield.

Adelsberg is a past trea-
surer of the Cong. Shomrey
Emunah and is a member of
its board. He is a past
president of Einstein Lodge
and is life-time chairman of
the Sick and Visiting Corn-
mittee. He is a member of
Shaarey Haplaytah, ORT,
Zionist Organization of
America-Detroit District
and Mizrachi organizations
and holds life memberships
in Akiva Hebrew Day
School and the American
Friends of Shaare Zedek
Hospital in Israel. The
Adelsbergs donated a
dialysis machine to the hos-
pital.
Einstein's Israel Bond
chairman is Henry
Dorfman; co-chairmen are
Fay Adelsberg and Sam
Freedman. A dinner com-
mittee is in formation.
