The Detroit Zionist Fed-
eration has announced the
schedule for its scholar-in-
residence Jay Shapiro of the
Israel Aircraft Industries,
who will be in Detroit April
11-25.
Time slots are still avail-
able for Shapiro to speak to
congregations and organ-
izations. Groups who wish
to hear Shapiro should con-
tact Henry Faigih, chair-
man of the DZF scholar-in-
residence program, 356-
7119; or the DZF office,
353-8828.
Shapiro will address
Hadassah at 1 p.m. April 12.
On April 13, he will speak at
the Hillel Foundation at
Wayne State University at
11:30 a.m. At 8 p.m. that
day, he will speak to the De-
troit District — Zionist
Organization of America at
the Zionist Cultural Center.
At 8:30 p.m. April 15,
Shapiro will speak at an
oneg Shabat for Jewish
and Single at Cong. Beth
Shalom. He will speak at
8:45 a.m. services and at a
luncheon folloWing April
16 at Cong. Bnai Moshe.
At 10 a.m. April 17, he will
speak at Bnai Moshe at a
sisterhood brunch. At 2
p.m. April 17, Shapiro
will speak at a combined
meeting of Pioneer
Women/Naamat, Histad-
rut and the Labor Zionist
Alliance at the Kristen
Towers, 25900 Green-
field, Suite 205E, Oak
Park.
At 7 p.m. April 17, Shap-
iro will give the Dvar
Torah at an Israel Indepen-
dence Day dinner sponsored
by Young Israel.
The Greater Detroit
Round Table of the National
Conference of Christians
and Jews will hear Shapiro
at 7:30 p.m. April 20 at the
NCCJ offices in Detroit.
The Einstein Luncheon
Forum will host Shapiro at
its April meeting at 12:30
p.m. April 21.
Cong. Bnai David will
host Shapiro at 11 a.m.
April 24.
A native of the U.S.,
Shapiro made aliya in 1969.
Employed at Israel Aircraft
Industries reliability re-
search and engineering,
Shapiro was a supervisor of
engineering and a manager
for the space division of
General Electric between
1960 and 1969. In 1981, he
undertook a special mission
for the Israeli aliya depart-
ment to serve as a liaison
between the department
and the American Jewish
community.
He is a member of the
American Society for Qual-
ity Control and a fellow of
the British Institute of
Quality Assurance. Shapiro
is a local, regional and na-
tional officer of the Associa-
tion of Americans and
Canadians in Israel and ad-
viser to the co-chairman of
the Caesarea Aliya Com-
mission of the Jewish
Agency.
He holds an MS degree in
