THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Shrodecks Celebrate 50th MR. AND MRS. ISADORE SHRODECK Saturday marks the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Isadore (Leah) Shrodeck. They were mem- bers of the second group of pioneers (which they helped organize) that sailed for Palestine on April 29, 1933. The group of 30 young men and women went to Kibutz Degania B, where Mrs. Shrodeck became the first English teacher in the Jordan Valley. Her hus- band worked in the fields and both were subsequently asked to join the Hagana. Upon their return to De- troit, Mrs. Shrodeck was graduated from Detroit Teachers College. She taught Hebrew and Yiddish at the Hayim Greenberg Hebrew Yiddish Shule, where she headed the nur- sery school, taught Hebrew in the upper grades, and later became principal of the school. She was in the first group of Hebrew teachers licensed by the Board of Licensure for Teachers in Jewish Schools. In recent years until her retirement she taught at the Combined Hebrew Yiddish Shule and the United Hebrew Schools. She has been active in Labor Zionist circles and is presently secretary of the Labor Zionist Coun- cil. Upon her retirement from teaching she has embarked on a career in calligraphy. Shrodeck left the Univer- sity of Michigan pre-med program in 1933 to go to Palestine. Upon his return to the States he continued his Zionist activities. He is one of the founding mem- bers of the Brenner Branch of LZA, a former chairman of the Metropolitan Di- vision of the Allied Jewish Campaign, a former chair- man of the LZA Council, and is. presently executive vice president of the Histad- rut Campaign. He also is a member of the Jewish Community Council Executive Committee and its -Committee on Interna- tional Concerns. Shrodeck is active in the Detroit Zionist Federation, was a former chairman of the Detroit Zionist Council, and was a delegate to the founding convention of the American Zionist Federa- tion. He is also chairman of the Political Actions Com- mittee of the Detroit LZA. The Shrodecks have a daughter, Rena Faller, and four grandchildren: Mark, Howard, Beth and Andrew. The Shrodecks are celeb- rating a double "simha" since Andrew celebrates his Bar Mitzva on their 50th wedding anniversary.
