Arab Nations Rip Israel, U.S. at New Delhi

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Israel's policies continued
this week to come under
vigorous attack by nations
attending the Seventh
Summit Conference of
Non-Aligned Nations in
New Delhi. But experts
here stressed Egypt's efforts
to end the hostility of the
other Arab countries stem-
ming from the Egyptian-
Israeli peace agreement.
Egyptian President
Hosni Mubarak, seeking to
ease his isolation in the
Arab world, joined Tuesday
in a chorus of Arab condem-
nations of Israel's occupa-
tion of Lebanon and of the

in the 1967 war.
Libya Tuesday urged the
101-member movement to
expel Egypt unless it drop-
ped its 1979 peace pact with
Israel. Egypt countered by
asking the conference to
suspend Libya.
In separate denuncia-
tions Wednesday, Libya
and Syria criticized
United States Middle
East policy. Major Abdel
Sallem Jalloud, Libya's
second in command,
charged the Reagan Ad-
ministration with collu-
sion with Premier
Menahem Begin and
former Defense Minister
Ariel Sharon in the Be-
irut Massacre of Palesti-
nian refugees. Syrian
President Hafez Assad
told the delegates that
when the United States
"speaks of peace in the
Middle East, who can be-
lieve them?"
Sheikh Isa Bin Salman
al-Khalifa, of Bahrain, told
the conference that "Israel
has gone too far in its at-
rocities" and that it had be-
come "the duty of the family
of nations" to deter Israel
and to compel it "to submit
to the principles of peace
and justice."
Mubarak, in his speech
Tuesday, said the "core and
crux" of the Middle East
deadlock was "the Palesti-
nian problem" and he pro-
posed establishment of a
Palestinian "national
entity" in the West Bank
and the Gaza strip by the
"brotherly people of Pales-
tine."
According to reports here,
the conference has become a

Former U.S. Senator
James Abourezk addressed
an Arab group in Detroit on
Sunday and said Arab dis-
unity had left Arabic-
speaking peoples "begging
for self-determination in
Beirut and all points south."
Speaking to 350 persons
in northwest Detroit's Is-
lamic Center of America,
Abourezk said the Arabs
have always outnumbered
the Israelis, but disunity
has prevented them for
securing a homeland for the
Palestinians.
He claimed that Arabs in
America ignored the Middle
East problems after World
War II while Jews or-
ganized on behalf of Israel.
He said Americans get an-
swers to questions about the
Middle East through "an Is-
raeli • prism."
