tT THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Jewish Causes, Mentally Ill Benefitted by Mrs. Berezin Esther Berezin, who in Ohio was active on behalf of mentally impaired patients and in Detroit in Jewish women's organizations, died Feb. 25 at age 69. Born in Vilna, Poland, Mrs. Berezin came to the U.S. at age 8. She married her husband, Max, 44 years ago and she and her hus- band settled in Tiffin, Ohio, where she managed the couple's women's retail clo- thing store. In Ohio, Mrs. Berezin was a founder of the Sandusky Valley Mental Health Clinic and organized a visi- tation program for Jewish patients at the Tiffin State Hospital. She was president of the Xenia County Mental Health Association in Ohio and a member of its Mental Health and Retardation Board. Mrs. Berezin also was a charter member of the Child Conservation League, president of the Tiffin Child Conserva- tion Association and served on the United Foundation and the lay advisory board of Tiffin Mercy Hospital. Besides her husband, Mrs. Berezin is survived by a son, Alec of University Heights, Ohio; two daugh- ters, Mrs. Arnold (Joanne) Zuroff and Judith White- man of Deerfield, Ill.; a sis- ter, Mrs. Milton (Eva) Aloff of Glenview, Ill.; and nine grandchildren. Jack Hochman Jack Hochman, a former Detroiter who was active here and in Florida in Masonic activities, died Feb. 26 at age 71. A resident of Delray Be- ach, Fla., Mr. Hochman was a member of Perfection Lodge of the Masons and Crescent Shrine Club in De- troit. He also was a 32nd de- gree Mason. In Florida, he was a member of Utopia Lodge of the Masons, Master Masons of Kings Point, Atlantic Democratic Club, Michigan Club of Kings Point and Temple Emeth. He regularly visited patients in the VA Hospi- tal in Miami. Mr. Hoch-man was the vice president of the Valencia Condo Association. He is survived by his wife, Ida; a son, Lyle Hochman of Southfield; two step-sons, Frederic Fryman of Warren and Seymour Fryman of Florida; a step-daughter, Mrs. Susan Ruda of At- lanta, Ga.; and eight grand- children.
