was a member of the edito-
rial staff of the Israeli daily
Davar as head of its
Jerusalem bureau and chief
political correspondent and
olumnist.

He has been at the Em-
bassy of Israel since 1982
and has lectured exten-
sively in the United States
and Europe on behalf of Is-
rael Bonds, United Jewish
Appeal, World Zionist
Organization and the In-
ternational Federation of
Journalists.

PASSOVER SALAD
1 16-ounce jar Vita herring in
wine sauce, drained
3 cups diced, unpeeled red
apples
1 cup finely chopped celery
cup nutmeats
Shredded lettuce
6 lemon wedges
Mix apples and celery; add
nutmeats and herring; toss
lightly. Serve on shredded let-
tuce. Garnish with lemon
wedges. Serves 6.

RUSSIAN HERRING
APPETIZER RECIPE
1 pint sour cream
3-4 tbsps. onion soup mix
1 /4 cup white wine
1 tbsp. dill weed
1 /4 tsp. pepper
1 12-ounce jar Vita herring in
wine sauce, drained, cut in
1-inch pieces
Sliced egg and parsley for
garnish

Combine sour cream, onion
soup mix, wine, dill weed and
pepper. Fold in herring. Cover
and chill for two to four hours.
Garnish with egg slices and
parsley. Serve well chilled with
matza, or roll spoonfuls into
lettuce bundles and secure
with appetizer picks. Makes
about three cups.

tor, born in 1908; and Isaac,
a dentist, born in 1912.
