The 500-acre park is a joint project of the JNF and the United Synagogue of America, the congregational arm of Con- servative Judaism. Shor described the park as a "pilot undertaking for the Gan" He noted that, although the area's popula- tion is now 70 percent Arab and much of the land uncul- tivated since the Roman times, the Galilee has been the longtime home of tal: mudic scholars and Jewish mystics that reflect "the spiritual feelings of the Conservative movement." He said the park should draw more Jews into this "critical, underpopulated area" and the_JNF has plans for some 30 Jewish settle- ments.
