The national organiza- tion prints a newspaper, "The Bridge," containing articles about APAI projects and chapter news. The Detroit group meets several times a year to hear speakers on Israel and to share their joys and prob- lems. Currently, the group is preparing a pamphlet on inexpensive hotels and res- taurants they recommend to parents who are visiting their children in Israel. Bayer said the local chap- ter is working to establish a Detroit hometown club in Israel. He said similar clubs have proven helpful in eas- ing absorption problems faced by new ohm. One such problem, he said, is getting mortgage money to buy .an apart- ment in Israel. He. said APAI is working to encourage the Israeli government and the Al- lied Jewish Campaign here to make available mortgage money for olim. Among its projects, APAI encourgages the purchase of Israeli products "to aid and support the Israeli economy," Bayer said. Members of the APAI can make use of a "human mail chain." Members traveling to Israel will carry letters from the U.S. to be mailed there, and in turn, bring back letters to be mailed in the U.S. froth children in Is- rael. Asked what the general mood of the parents is re- garding having children in Israel, Mrs. Lefton re- sponded that emotions were mixed. "We felt - if our child could make a contribu- tion, it is all right." She added that some parents felt anger, that Israel was keeping their children from them. The children of Detroiters are settled all throughout Israel. The Bayers' son is in Raanana, while Dr. and Mrs. Lefton's daughter, . son-in-law and grandchild are in Kiryat Shmona. Ac- cording to Esther Tal, ad- ministrative assistant at the Israel Aliya Center office in West Bloomfield, morq than 1,000 Detroiters have made aliya. In 1983, 35 Detroiters, in- cluding a family with six children, will leave the De- troit area for a new life in Israel. - Fashions to Be Modeled at Maimonides Donor . , Activ ities (in Society Harry J.
