SZ Women's Patron's Day
a Prelude to Women's World

Loss of Loved Ones' to Be
JWF Career Women Topic

Cong. Shaarey Zedek's
Sisterhood will present its
major fund-raising event of
the year, Patron's Day of
Women's World 1983, on
March 21 at noon at the
synagogue. Luncheon will
be served.
The theme of the program
is health and fitness, and
will feature Gail Greenfield
and her ensemble, "Positive
Performance."
Patrons will also be in-
vited to "It's a Women's
World — The Best You Can
Be in 1983" at 9 a.m., April
27 at the synagogue.
The program will fea-
ture a continental break-
fast, treasure and doll
shopping, a health sym-
posium led by three
physicians: Dr. Joseph
Honet, chairman of de-
partment of rehabilita-
tion medicine at Sinai
Hospital; Dr. David B.
Hawtof, plastic surgeon;

Author Harriet Schiff and
clinical social worker Hazel
Maxwell will be the fea-
tured speakers on "Loss of
Loved Ones" in the Career
Women lecture series spon-
sored by the Jewish Welfare
Federation Women's Di-
vision. The program will be
held March 7 at United He-
brew Schools.
Reservations are re-
quired for the 6 p.m. dinner,

and Dr. Everett Newton
Rottenberg, specializing
in arthritic problems. A
luncheon and fashion
show will highlight the
event.
Joyce Blum . is sisterhood
president, and Helene
Cherrin is fund-raising vice
president and chairman of
Patron's Day.

Celebrates 90th

Michael Malter, father of

Seminars Set

Graduates of the fall
leadership seminar offered
by the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration Women's Division
have been invited to attend
a series of lectures during
March. Division board
members also will be par-
ticipating.
The Leadership Enrich-
ment Series is an outgrowth
of the graduates' interest in
learning more about issues
of concern to Jewish women.
The first lecture, 9:15
a.m. Thursday at United
Hebrew Schools, will fea-
ture University of Michi-

man discussing "Israel
Political Parties — De-
velopment and Impact,"
and Women's Division
President Jane Sherman
on "United Jewish Ap-
peal in Israel."

The Greater Detroit Sec-
tion of the National Council
of Jewish Women has begun
an informational campaign
in support of contributions
through the Michigan State
Income Tax to combat child
abuse.
Persons receiving 1982
Michigan refunds can
designate $2 per individual
or $4 on a joint return to be
forwarded to the Children's
Trust Fund. The money will
be used for local child abuse
councils and prevention
services.

Jewish parents in teaching
their children about death.
For the past five years,
Hazel Maxwell has been
the director of the volun-
teer program for the
Hospice of Southeastern
Michigan. She trains
"core groups" in an ef-
fort to expand services to
the terminally ill. Ms.
Maxwell will give infor-
mation on choices avail-
able to the terminally ill.
