Meyers, director of the graduate program in religious studies at Duke University, for the annual Rabbi Morris Adler Memorial Lecture at 8 p.m. March 9. He will describe the "Discovery of the Oldest Sacred Ark in Israel." Dr. Meyers is listed in "Who's Who in Religion in America," "International Biography of Scholars," Na- tional Geographic. He has received major awards and fellowships from the Smith- sonian Institute, the Duke Research Council and the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture among others. Dr. Meyers received his doctorate with distinction from Harvard University, his master's degree from Brandeis University and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College. He also studied at Hebrew University and Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem and the University of Vie- nna, Austria. He is pre- sently on a sabbatical at Ox- ford University where he has been awarded a fellow- ship. Since 1964, he has been supervisor, director and co-director of 11 ar- cheological expeditions and explorations, mainly in Israel — the latest being director of excava- tions at En-Nabratein in 1980-1981 and co-director of the Survey and Exca- vations in Venosa, Italy, sponsored by the World Jewish Congress, Uni- versity of Bari and the In- stitute of Christian Archeology. Dr. Meyers has published six boOks, among them "Archeology, the Rabbis and the New Testament" and has four more books in preparation. He also has published numerous arti- cles, delivered many schol- arly papers and is the author of many reviews. Dr. Meyers also was con- sultant for WNET televi- sion "Civilization and the Jews" series with Abba Eban, served as reviewer for the National Endowment for the Humanities and has served as director of Hillel Foundation at Brandeis University, of a summer seminar in Israel and of the Albright Institute in Jerusalem. His member- ship in professional associa- tions includes the American Academy of Religion, board of directors of Brandeis University, Israel Explora- tion Society and more.
