Envoys Push Resumption of Talks on Taba Region TEL AVIV (JTA) — Is- rael and Egypt are expected to resume talks shortly on the disputed Taba border area south of Eilat and on the implementation of the normalization agreements. The renewed talks follow a series of secret negotia- tions carried out in recent weeks, mainly by the U.S. ambassadors in Tel Aviv and Cairo. Egypt originally wanted the talks to focus on the Taba issue, where the exact borderline is in dispute, with Israel claiming that a new five-star hotel and a beach resort are in Israeli territory but the Egyptians saying the small few-acre area belongs to them. Israel insisted that the negotiations also include implementation of some 50 bilateral agreements on normal relations be- tween the two countries. In the secret talks it was decided•that the Taba issue should be dealt with first — a major concession by Israel — and normalization dis- cussed later. The first round of talks will probably be held in Is- mailia, Egypt, possibly next week. Meetings would henceforth alternate be- tween Israel and Egypt.
