He takes his post. next September. Shapira, who studied at the Juilliard School of Music in the U.S., was for a time the conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Malmo, Sweden, before his current appointment. Detroiter David Hermelin, center, was given a special award last month at Israel Bonds' Prime Minister's Conference in Jerusalem by Israeli Chief of Staff Gen. Rafael Eitan, right.
