Bonds Cites David Hermelin

AMSTERDAM (JTA) —
The Israel-born Elyakim
Shapira has been appointed
conductor of the Overijssels
Philharmonic-Orchestra in
Holland. He takes his post.
next September.
Shapira, who studied at
the Juilliard School of
Music in the U.S., was for a
time the conductor of the
Symphony Orchestra of
Malmo, Sweden, before his
current appointment.

Detroiter David Hermelin, center, was given a
special award last month at Israel Bonds' Prime
Minister's Conference in Jerusalem by Israeli Chief of
Staff Gen. Rafael Eitan, right. At left is Sol Volchuk,
cash collection chairman. Hermelin was cited for his
work in Bonds' recent "Operation Maccabee."

Seigel, the International
Council of Jewish Women's
representative here, has
been elected vice chairman
of the Non-governmental
Organization (NGO) sub-
committee on the status of
women.
The council has consulta-
tive status in the United
Nations Economic and So-
cial Committee. Ms. Seigel
was previously the English
secretary and convener of
the working group on
women and employment in
the Economic and Social
Committee.
