Students Design
College Majors

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Nearly 40 students at Stern
College for Women (SCW) of
Yeshiva University in
Manhattan are participat-
ing in an innovative pro-
gram concentrating in
majors they design for
themselves in fields beyond
existing majors at the col-
lege, according to Dean
Karen Bacon.
Called "Shaped Majors,"
these concentrations are de-
signed to satisfy a student's
particular educational and
career goals. In SCW's cur-
riculum, the dual program
combines Jewish studies
with liberal arts and sci-
ences.
Work experience is a vital
part of the program and the
college helps students find
internships in fields related
to their individual goals,
Dean Bacon said.

NEW YORK — The
American Jewish Commit-
tee has joined with 10 reli-
gious, medical, and youth-
serving organizations in
urging the Department of
Health and Human Serv-
ices to hold up action on a
controversial proposed
regulation requiring paren-
tal notification when teen-
age girls seek birth control.
In a mailgram to Mar-
garet M. Heckler, secretary
- designate of the depart-
ment, the organizations, all
of whom oppose the regula-
tion, asked that further con-
sideration be given to oppos-
ing points of view, and re-
quested an opportunity to
meet with Mrs. Heckler be-
fore a final decision is made.

If well thou hast begun,
go on; it is the end that
crowns . us, not the fight.
