Invitational • Gymnastic
Meet will take place Satur-
day and Sunday at Ferndale
High School. The meet is
sponsored by the Durbin
Co., Realtors.
The events include olym-
pic women's competition in
balance beam, uneven
parallel bars, vaulting and
floor exercise. The girls
competing in the weekend
are from ages 9 to 17.
Competition will run
Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 9
p.m. Sunday's competition
begins at 10 a.m. and ends
at 6 p.m. There is a charge
for admission.

NEW YORK — A section
of the Negev desert has been
transformed into a patch of
lush, green eucalyptus trees
thanks to the efforts of Gi-
deon Saphir, the New York
Times reported in its sci-
ence section recently.
Saphir, who has worked
as a Jewish National Fund

used an ancient irrigation
technique to cultivate the
grove, which is situated
near Beersheva.
The method involved
building catchments to cap-
ture run-off rain water dur-
ing the wet months. The
