TANENBAUM (A Seven Arts Feature) There has developed a large literature by Chris- tian theologians on their new understanding of Jews and Judaism, but no paper has been as far-reaching and impactful, in my judg- ment, as that presented by Prof. Paul van Buren at the unprecedented conference of Christian and Jewish seminarians in Dallas, Jan. 10-13. Entitled, "Theological Education for the Church's Relation to the Jewish People," Prof. van Buren of Temple University chal- lenged Christian seminary faculty and studdents to re- CASE CONTROL PEST MANAGEMENT A FOR YOUR FREE Estimates and Professional Consultation: B L E A S • M DIAL FULLY INSURED UCENSED • 352-4390 • MEMBER MICHIGAN PEST CONTROL ASSOCIATION FOR PROMPT SERVICE CASE CONTROL GUARANTEES TO GET RID OF WHAT'S BUGGING YOU! "Since the ancient love af- fair between God and Israel is still on," Dr. van Buren adds, "we are being shaken into a new understanding of God's and our own relation- ship to the Jewish people." In his 31-page paper, he spells out in theological specifics how the entire teaching, preaching and practices of the church toward Jews and Judaism must be fundamentally re- cast. NY Arts School Celebrates 30th By HEIDI WALESON (Copyright 1983, JTA, Inc.) The 1982-1983 season marks the 30th anniversary of the Hebrew Arts School in New York. Dr. Tzipora Jochsberger, the German-born and Israel-trained composer and educator founded the school, which began in two borrowed classrooms in 1952. As its size and curriculum increased, it made several moves around the city. In 1978, the school opened its own building, a gift from industrialist and school trustee Abraham Goodman, in the Lincoln Center area. The $3.5 million bUilding houses nine classrooms, two dance studios, 22 instru- mental studios, a small con- cert hall and a library, in which Dr. Jochsberger plans to create an archive of Jewish composers. Individual courses of study are devised for each of the 350 Hebrew Arts School students. The children, age 5-18, attend after scho ol on weekdays and all day Sunday. They receive private instru- mental instruction, and study choral singing, dance, art, theater, Jewish music and music theory. The faculty includes members of the New York Philharmonic and other major orchestras, as well as a number of Soviet emigre musicians. The school also offers an adult education program and a teacher- training institute. Synagogue Apts.
