BBYO Activities

BBYO is taking applica-
tions for its 28th annual Is-
rael Summer Institute. This
six-week study tour offers
programs in four interest
areas.
ISI-Discovery combines
tours, seminars and expo-
sure to Israel's lifestyle. The
program includes six days
in a collective settlement,
four days of home hospital-
ity with an Israeli teen and
five days in the Negev at a
field school in Eilat.
ISI-Archeology includes
an archeological dig. ISI-
Ulpan adds an introduction
to conversational Hebrew.
ISI-Bible includes study
sessions of Bible passages
followed by trips to the most
significant biblical sites.
Information on all four
programs of the Israel
Summer Institute may be
obtained from AZA and
BBG chapter presidents
or from the BBYO office,
552-8260. Scholarship
help is offered to AZA
and BBG members. Ap-
plication deadline is
March 1.
Michigan Region BBYO
has kicked off its 1983
Membership Drive which
will run through March 31.
The theme of the drive is
"Membership Maccabia —
Stretch Run" and the goal is
for each chapter to recruit at
least seven new members
into BBYO. Chapters may
recruit members for their
own chapter or for other

chapters in the Region. For

The AZA Basketball and
BBG Volleyball Leagues
will begin 9 a.m. Sunday at
Oakland Community Col-

through Feb. 2 for AZA
Basketball and Feb. 10 for

Women's Council of Met-
ropolitan Detroit will spon-
sor a joint program 11 a.m.
Feb. 6 at the main UHS
building. The program will
feature Joy Schumacher
who will speak on "Human
Sexuality." Following the
speaker a salad bar lunch-
eon will be served. The pro-
gram will conclude with a

The fifth annual AZA-
Pisgah Lodge Bowling
Tournament will take place

8:45 a.m. Feb. 6 at West
Bloomfield Lanes. The pro-
gram is designed for AZA
seniors. The program will
feature breakfast, three
games of bowling, luncheon
and awards. There is no
charge, but a refundable
deposit must accompany

to Anti-Semitism

Great Lakes BBG Council

Savage BBG will hold its
annual winter dance 8:30
p.m. Feb. 5 at the main
United Hebrew Schools
building. The theme of the
dance will be "The Savage
Switch" featuring a Sadie
Hawkins theme. All Jewish
youth are invited.
The Great LAkes BBG
Council and the Bnai Brith

Lutheran Church has circu-
lated a statement declaring
that "we Christians today
must purge ourselves of any
hatred of the Jews and any
sort of teaching of contempt
for Judaism," according to
the Institute of Jewish Af-
fairs of the World Jewish
Congress.
The declaration was one
of a number of recom-
mendations emanating
from the recently concluded
Lutheran World Federation
Consultation on the Church
and the Jewish people.
