Gendein of Oak Park an-
nounce the engagement of
their daughter, Susan
Diane Gendein, to Lee
Bruce Marshall, son of Dr.
and Mrs. Fred Marshall of
Bloomfield Hills. Miss Gen-
dein was graduated from
Wayne State University
with a Bachelor of Arts de-
gree in psychology and a
master's degree in clinical
social work. Her fiance was
graduated from the Univer-
sity of Miami with a
Bachelor of Arts degree in
anthropology and is pursu-
ing studies towards a mas-
ter's degree in vocational
rehabilitation counseling at
WSU. A May wedding is
planned.

Mrs. Sally Pacernick of
Southfield announces the
engagement of her daugh-
ter, Judith Roslyn Pacer-
nick, to H. Elliot Parnes,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Parnes of Flint. Miss Pacer-
nick, daughter of the late
Mr. Edward Pacernick,
attended the University of
Michigan and Wayne State
University and holds a BS
degree in education and a
master's degree in educa-
tion. Her fiance earned a BA
degree at Michigan State
University and attended
the Detroit College of Law.
A July wedding is planned.

The Detroit Zionist Fed-
eration announces its 1983
scholar-in-residence will be
Dr. Jay Shapiro, who will be
in Detroit April 11-25.
During his two weeks in
Detroit, Dr. Shapiro will be
available to speak on the
following topics: Engineer-
ing in Israel; Profes-
sionalism in Israel; Israel-
Diaspora Relations; Arab-
Israel Conflict; Israel as a
Jewish Society; Religion in
Israel, Parallels and Dif-
ferences Between Israel and
the Western Democracies.
In 1981, he undertook a
special mission for the Is-
rael Aliya Department to
serve as liaison between the
department and the Ameri-
can Jewish community.
Dr. Shapiro made aliya
in 1969. He is currently
employed at Israel Air-
craft Industries in relia-
bility research and
engineering. Dr. Shapiro
is also a local, regional
and national officer of
the Association of
Americans and Cana-
dians in Israel; and ad-
viser to the co-chairman
of the Caesarea Aliya
commission for the
Jewish Agency.

Kids Prepare
for Tu b'Shevat
Kindergarten students at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek's reli-
gious school have been par-
ticipating in a Tu b'Shevat
campaign in order to plant
trees in Israel. The program
is under the direction of
Mrs. Herschel Schlussel.
Two classes are par-
ticipating in the drive. They

Nursery Opens
Fall Enrollment
The Temple Israel Nur-
sery School is taking
enrollment for the 1983-
1984 school year.
The nursery school will
run a variety of programs
and classes for children age
3-5. Classes may be selected
for three mornings, five
mornings, three afternoons,
or five afternoons per week,
depending on the child's
age. Kindergarten readi-
ness, mother-toddler and
enrichment and lunch pro-
grams also are available:
