Brooklyn and Manhattan,
will be a panelist at the
community-wide educa-
tional "Step Up to Israel"
conference Feb. 13 at the
main Jewish Community
Center.
As an emissary of Israel,
Hollander is responsible for
promoting emigration to Is-
rael, providing information
about Israel to community
groups and individuals and
processing applications for
the many programs in Is-
rael sponsored by the Israel
Aliya Center.
He also is special
shaliakh to Project Elef, a
new family program spon-
sored by the Israel Aliya
Center. Geared for North
American families, Project
Elef provides a one-month
visit to Israel, during which
Americans are guided by
their Israeli counterparts
throughout the country.
The aliya center ex-
pects to send 1,000
families to Israel this
summer via Project Elef.
Hollander was born in
Czechoslovakia and emi-
grated to Israel in 1949. He
received a law degree from
Hebrew University and
served in the army as mili-
tary district attorney and as
prosecutor and judge in the
army's court martial di-
vision.
Before assuming his role
with the aliya center, he
was assistant legal adviser
in the state comptroller's
office of Israel.
Serving as local resource
persons on the conference
panel will be Mr. and Mrs.
Jerry (Jacqui) Kaufman,
who participated in a pilot
program for Project 1000
last summer.
The "Step Up to Israel"
conference includes the par-
ticipation of the major
Jewish organizations of the
community and the youth
movements. The aim of the
conference is to encourage
aliya, inspire tourism and
promote Israeli products.
Travel specialists will
be on hand to answer
questions and local per-
sons who have been to Is-
rael will share their ex-
periences. Booths will be
set up with brochures to
describe organizational
and educational pro-
grams.
