Hebrew Language Focus
of Student Sessions at WSU

Bnai Brith Hillel Found-
ation at Wayne State Uni-
versity has begun a conver-
sational Hebrew session.
The sessions are con-
ducted 10:30 a.m. Mondays
in the Hillel Lounge by Pal-
tiel Lifschitz, a graduate
student in communications
at WSU.
Marci Manniker, a
former student at Hebrew
University will be at Hillel
at 11:50 a.m. Monday to
talk about the overseas stu-
dents programs at Hebrew
University.
A discussion on Arab-
Jewish reconciliation
will take place 11:50 a.m.
Wednesday at Hillel.
Robert Oppenheimer, a
graduate student at the
Merrill-Palmer Institute,
who has participated in
Neve Shalom in Israel, a

project to foster peaceful
relations between Arabs
and Jews, will lead the
discussion.

The Hillel House in Oak
Park has programs 8-11
p.m. Mondays through
Thursdays.

SUMMER 1983 IN ISRAEL AWARDS

The Meyer and Nathan Fishman Family Foundation an-
nounces five $1,300 awards to outstanding high school stu-
dents from the 10th-12th grades in the the Tri-County area of
Greater Detroit who will spend the summer of 1983 in Israel.
Applicants must be enrolled in a Jewish high school. They will
be judged by academic achievement, leadership and commu-
nity service. Financial need will also be considered.

Application forms are available from Jewish educators or
Dr. Gerald A. Teller, United Hebrew Schools, 21550 W. Twelve
Mile Road, Box 2046, Southfield, Michigan 48037. Applications
must be received by Dr. Teller no later than Friday, February
25, 1983.

ceremony at Temple Ohev
Shalom in Orlando, Fla.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Bryson

President Francois Mitter-
rand returned last week to
the Rue des Rosiers restau-
rant where an Arab hit
squad killed six people last
August.
The president, accom-
panied by his Jewish
brother-in-law, Roger Ha-
nin, and a young Jewish
politician, Roger Gerard
Schwartzenberg, arrived
unannounced and unex-
pected.
Mitterrand wanted to
show his solidarity with the
people in the "Pletzel," the
old Jewish ghetto. He sat for
close to three hours with Jo
Goldenberg and some of his
customers to "chew the fat"
and discuss the situation.
