Jack Schon, a congrega-
tion board member and past
president, told the audience
that the tragedy of the fire
"has brought us together."
He said good can come out of
the fire. "The people sitting
here are the real strength of
the synagogue, the real
mortar.
"We are our strength," he
said. "Come to the services
and- exhibit our strength.
We will come back stronger
than ever."

During
night's meeting, photo-
grapher Bernie Winer
showed slides taken that
day of the damaged
synagogue.
Meanwhile, members of
the Jewiish Defense League
claimed they had proof that
Beth Abraham Hillel Moses
had been firebombed and of-
fered a $1,000 reward for in-
formation about-the alleged
perpetrators. Members of
the JDL went to the
burned-out structure Tues-
day evening to "protect it
from looters."
JDL spokesmen claimed
the group would begin

Emulation is the devil-
shadow of aspiration. To ex-
cite it is worthy only of the
commonplace vulgar
schoolmaster, whose ambi-
tion is to show what fine
scholars he can turn out,
that he may get the more
pupils.
