THE :DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
Hard to beat some of
the other employees . . .
like gracious, capable
waiter Edmund
Gniatczyk, eight years at
Kingsley Inn . . . after a
stalwart at Northwood
Inn on Woodward . . and
Polly Phelps, waitress, so
efficient, personable and
smiling.
You might call dining at
Kingsley Inn class elegance
. . . It isn't cheap . . . but
then again not overly-
expensive either . . . The re-
laxing comfort and quality
food have qualities of dis-
tinction.
Kingsley Inn has changed
. . . for the better . . . Of this
we know Nick Takis joins
the Zawideh family in much
happiness . . . Who wouldn't
. . . seeing their institution
become even finer.
,"THIS IS REAL THE-
ATER!" exulted Shirley
Eder in the lobby after open-
ing of "Nuts" at Birming-
ham Theater on Woodward
. . . "Everyone should see
it!" said Shirley.
Not too many in the audi-
ence would disagree with
her . . . Although starting
slowly, "Nuts"gains enough
momentum to stir people in
their seats . . . The entire set
is a court room . . . and the
acting is superb.
Nuts was chosen a _ s one of
the 10 best plays of the
season on
1979-1980
Broadway . . . And Stephen
Zuckerman, who directed
the original New York
production is with the Bir-
mingham presentation . .
Stephen was a student at
Yale Drama School and
University of Michigan.
MAIL DEPT. . . . "It has
come to my attention that a
certain good restaurant lo-
cated in Windsor, Ont. has
never had a write-up in your
column.
"My wife and I travel
quite a bit and have eaten in
many fine establishments
and find Zuk's Wharf of
Windsor to be deserving of a
mention in your column.
Their food is excellently .and
freshly prepared. They have
a good chef and their food is
purchased fresh daily. The
help is pleasant and very
competent. Their prices are
moderate.
"Being that we frequent
this establishment periodi-
cally we have made the ac-
quaintance of the owner.
During a recent visit the
owner confided in us that he
may have to change the
format of this establish-
ment or go out of business in
order to survive these hard
economic times.
"Like he said, 'People who
used to go out to eat maybe
once or twice a month, now
eat out once a month. They
may have two or three favo-
rite restaurants, so once
they eat at one place and the
other time they come here.
Nobody can survive in this
type of climate.' "
Dave and Roslyn Weiner
ALBAN'S BOTTLE &
BASKET on N. Hunter in
Birmingham will become a
sitdown restaurant . . .
maybe in October of this
year . . . Ground will hope-
fully be broken in March
just north of the present
building.
In other words, parking
lots will be exchanged .. .
The new Alban's-eatery,
carry-out and huge selec-
tion of liquor will be built on
its present large parkin _ g lot
. The cafeteria-deli will
be completely gutted . . .
and new setup also serving
liquor by the glass.

There's a famous restau-

seating and Shu Li Tsung
was one of the 20 chefs . . . In
