As a ,prelude to Federa- tion's Feb. 6 community forum on the Middle East, the synagogues are conduct- ing the special Sabbath in conjunction with Federa- tion. The importance of in- dividual participation in a strong and cohesive com- munity will be highlighted as rabbis and guest speak- ers address their congrega- tions. Messages to the congre- gations will include the Jewish tradition of tzedaka relative to today's growing needs in the local commu- nity and to those in Israel and elsewhere overseas who depend on Campaign- funded human services. The Sabbath will also focus on Federation's role in the community through its so- cial service agencies, de- velopment of innovative services and such commu- nity education efforts as the Feb. 6 forum. Due to an unprece- dented response, the forum will be held at Adat Shalom Synagogue instead of at the Jewish Community Center as previously announced. Open to the entire community, with ad- vance registration re- quired, the forum is being presented by Federation to provide timely infor- mation during a period of challenge. Kissinger Denied Story by Sharon WASHINGTON (ZINS) — Israel Defense Minister Ariel Sharon told an Italian journalist that Henry Kis- singer had called him re- cently to say that a whole new chapter had opened up in the Middle East. Sharon quoted Kissinger as saying there were many new possibilities for solving the Palestinian problem. Kissinger, former U.S. Secretary of State, denied the report in a letter to the Washington Post. The Ita- lian journalist said she was subsequently called by one of Sharon's aides who apologized for the error.
