'Zionists' • Blamed
for .City's Stand
Against Mansion

NEW YORK — Rev. Wal-
ter Taylor, the former
mayor of Englewood, N.J.,
blamed "self-styled
Zionists" for that city's op-
position to the sale of a
home to the chief Libyan
delegate of the United Na-
tions. Taylor made the
charges at a news confer-
ence at the UN Monday.
When asked to identify
the "Zionists" involved,
Taylor, who served as
mayor between 1972 and
1976, said "All the Jewish
representation in the (city)
council." He specifically re-
ferred to the current mayor,
Steve Rothman, City Man-
ager William Sommers and
Priscilla McKenna, a
member of the council.
While the mayor is Jewish,
both Sommers and
McKenna are not.
The home, a 25-room
mansion, was purchased by
the Libyan mission to the
UN for $1 million last No-
vember.

Implant Ruling

TEL AVIV (ZINS) —
Chief Rabbi Shlomo Goren
commented on the implan-
tation of an artificial heart
in a man in the United
States.
Rabbi Goren said that an
individual who receives a
plastic heart forfeits his
status as a human being be-
cause the artificial device
cannot fulfill the symbolic
functions of the living
gan.
On the other hand, the
physician who conducts the
implant operation cannot be
accused of homicide because
the operation is acceptable
under the dictates of Jewish
law to do everything to save
a life.
