Editor, The Jewish News:
In reference to the arti-
cles by Dr. Milton
Steinhardt in the Dec. 17 ,
and 24th editions of The
Jewish News, Dr. John M.
Allegro's account of the ori-
gins of Christianity in his
"The Sacred Mushroom and
the Cross" deserves as much
credence as the "Toldoth
Jeshu" circulated among
the Jews in the Middle
Ages. Indeed as Guignebert
said, "Christianity is a
Jewish phenomenon."

Editor, The Jewish News:
In connection with the
passing of Dr. Robert
Weltsch, the renowned
editor of the Juedische
Rundschau in Berlin until
1938, I have read a number
of eulogies published here
and abroad, all making
reference to his celebrated
editorial of April 1, 1933,
"Wear the Yellow Badge
with Pride."
I worked with Dr.
Weltsch during the 1930s
and have great admiration
for him. Exactly for that
reason, I would like to refer
to a passage in Lucy S.
Dawidowicz "The War
Against the Jews, 1933-
1945," page 176:
".
Weltsch was later
remorseful. On several oc-
casions, he told friends that
he deeply regretted having
written that editorial, that
instead of calling for Jewish
pride, he should have
exhorted the Jews to flee for
their lives."
