THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Louisiana Floods Miss -Area Jews NEW YORK (JTA) — The president of the‘United Jewish Charities (UJC) of Northeast Louisiana in Monroe, Morris Mintz, said Tuesday that the UJC had no information that any Jewish homes, factories or institutions in the area had been damaged by the floors which have ravaged the area, causing, estimated damages of $100 million. Mintz told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, in a telephone interview, that the UJC had learned of one case in which a Jewish- owned home in the Monroe area had come close to being damaged by the rampaging flood waters but actually was not damaged. Mintz said the UJC was planning a special meeting "within a few days" to assess the flood's possible ef- fects on local area Jews but repeated that he was cer- tain that if any Jewish fam- ily, institution or business had been hurt, the. UJC would have learned about it and would have stepped in to:provide help. weeks only Tapper's Jewelry offers over 500 pairs of earrings Red Cross Workers Visit Israeli POWs GENEVA (JTA) — Representatives of the In- ternational Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Stationed in Lebanon last week visited the six Israeli soldiers being held as pris- oners of war in Lebanon by the Palestine Liberation Organization, the ICRC re- ported. The visit took.place in ac- cordance with the regula- tions of the Geneva. Conven- tion, which 'means that the ICRC representatives were accompanied by doctors but no witnesses. The ICRC spokesman said that according to the report he received, the Is- raelis were in good health but were "very homesick." Loss, who is a member of the JTA Board of Directors, re- tired last spring as director of the United Jewish Wel- fare Fund (FSJU). He now also heads the French Jewish monthly, L'Arche.
