THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

A Wish List for 1983

By RABBI SAMUEL
SILVER

(A Seven Arts Feature)

What I'd like to see in
1983:
• Detente.
• Outlawing of war and
the word, "war." The proper
term for superpower conflict
is Omnicide.
• More people attending
worship services for the
sake of worship.
• Reduction of slow
suicide through nicotine
and other narcotics.
• More solid support by
the U.S. of its sister-
democracy, Israel.
• Two economists who
agree with one another.
• More concertization
among Jewish religious de-
nominations, with an eye
towards merger.
• TV programs and films
which prove that virtue can
be as exciting as vice.
schools
• Religious
which refuse to admit chil-
dren unless accompanied by
a parent.

• Less grimness in the
world.
• Handgun control.

French Stamp
Honors Blum

PARIS (JTA) — The
French post office has is-
sued a stamp carrying a pic-
ture of former Premier Leon
Blum. The 1.8 franc stamp
will be used for all regular
mail within France and the
10-nation European Eco-
nomic Community.
President Francois Mit-
terrand and Prime Minister
Pierre Mauroy attended a
special ceremony at the
main post office museum to
mark the issuance of the
new stamp. Blum, whawas
Jewish, served as a prime
minister twice, once when
he led the Socialist coalition
in 1936 and again in the
immediate post-war years.

The sum of behavior is to
retain a man's own dignity,
without intruding upon the
liberty of others.
