ADL Asks Court
to Set Aside
Quota Decision

NEW YORK-The Anti -
Defamation League of Bnai
Brith has called upon the
United ,States Supreme
Court to set aside a Massa-
chusetts District Court rul-
ing allowing racial quotas
to be used as a basis for
layoffs in public service em-
ployment.
The ADL challenged the
lower court decision in an
amicus curiae brief submit-
ted to the Supreme Court
Dec. 16.
According to Meyer
Eisenberg, chairman of
ADL's national law com-
mittee, the decision, stem-
ming from a series of cases
involving the Boston police
and fire departments, re-
" sulted in a racially ,based
remedy that "cannot be
squared with the dictates of
the Constitution."
