Official Honored
at Bond Dinner

than $4 million in Israel
Bond securities were pur-
chased at a dinner in
Pittsburgh on Dec. 6 at
which Dr. Richard M. Cyert,
president of Carnegie-
Mellon University, was
honored as "man of the
year." U.S. Sen. Edward
Kennedy (D-Mass.) was the
principal speaker.
Dr. Cyert received the
Bond Organization's Israel
Peace Medal in -recognition
of his "noteworthy leader-
ship in Carnegie-Mellon
University's Israel Bond-
Matching Gift Program,
which has provided educa-
tional -aid for deserving
American students' and
economic support for the'-
state of Israel."
Under the terms of the
program, the university
matches each gift of an Is-
rael Bond with the purchase
of a similar bond and holds
both bonds as part of its
endowment.

been reported by Alfred

The format of the ar-
rangement is 'a three-year
grant of $15,000 by the
Areoflex Laboratories of
Plainview to the United
-Jewish Ys. Eight passes will
be provided to the firm.

Hostage Wins
His Libel Suit

LOS ANGELES — Jerry
Plotkin, an American civi-
lian who was one of the hos-
tages in Iran in 1979-1980,
, has won a $60 million libel
suit against two reporters
and the Daily News of Los
Angeles.
The reporters refused to
name their sources for their
story that Plotkin was sus-
pected of dealing in drugs
when he was in Iran.

peal the libel decision.
