Priest Sought
Papal Audience
for Arafat
A letter from a priest who
used to rim a boys school in
the West Bank and is now a
confidant to Palestine Lib-
eration Organization leader
Yasir Arafat, may have
been instrumental in set-
ting up last September's
meeting between the Pope
and the PLO leader.
Rev. Ibrahim Ayad wrote
to Pope John Paul II seeking
a papal audience for Arafat
last year, according to_ an
article in the Detroit Free
Press. Although the Pope
did not answer the letter,
Vatican officials assured
Rev. Ayad that a meeting
would be granted for Arafat,
the Detroit Free Press re-
ported.

WALTHAM, Mass. —
Brandeis University will
instutute a special tuition
program next year offering
parents the chance to save
on potential tuition in-
creases by paying in ad-
vance for all four years of
college education.
The school will lend par-
ents up to 75 percent of the
total college bill, including
room and board. The loans
will be secured by floating
tax exempt bonds. Brandeis
will then sell the promisory
notes signed by the parents
to the State Student Loan
Authority and a private col-
lection agency will _handle
the monthly billings over an
eight-year period.
The school estimates that
the program could save par-
ents as much as $4,000 in
tuition increases during the
average four-year enroll-
ment.

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
IDF units in Lebanon have
vacated six buildings after
engineers ruled they were
in danger of collapse, ac-
cording to military corre-
spondents. In the wake of
the disaster at IDF head-
quarters in Tyre, which cost
90 lives, engineers repor-
tedly checked about 200
structures in Lebanon.
