Kahane told an audience of
250 at the Southfield Civic
Center that it is "better to
have a Jewish state that is
hated by the entire world
, than an Auschwitz that is
loved by it."
Rabbi Kahane, founder of
the Jewish Defense League
and the Kach movement,
spoke after a federal court
order forced the city of
Southfield to rent him --
space. The city revoked a
rental agreement two
weeks ago after Nazis_
threatened to demonstrate.

There were no demon-
strators at Kahane's speech
Wednesday.
At a news conference
prior to -the speech
Kahane told reporters
that it was outrageous
that he had to file a court
suit in order to gain his
right to speak.

Kahane, the Jewish Idea
which sponsored his visit
and the American Civil
Liberties Union say they
will file a $2 million damage
suit against Southfield.
