We were the first to bring modern medical care to the Land and Old City of Jerusalem. We established its first nurses training, medical and dental schools, public health and social welfare systems, and introduced medical equipment and techni- ques that made possible the first complete center for cancer care and many other "firsts." Since its beginning, over 45 years ago, Hadassah has cared about and cared for those who have turned to Youth Aliyah for physical and spiritual sur- vival. Sensitive always to the changing needs of successive waves of children—from the first pre-war group of German youngsters in 1934 to the homeless destitute waifs of the Holocaust, to those now seeking rescue from oppression and disadvantage- Hadassah remains one of the largest organizational contributors in the world to Youth Aliyah, providing monies for the general maintenance fund and making extra allocations to special in- stitutions.
