5 nc OFF ON DAILY
so much know-how presence
is quietly discovered by ap-
preciative
diners
. . .
There's nothing better than
a waiter or waitress with
class to top off a good meal
. . . and Jack has it all the
way.
SKY WALKER is at
Jag's, Gratiot in Roseville,
Tuesday through Saturday
til Jan. 1.
I LIKE THE line by Mike
Downey in Nov. 29 issue of
Detroit Free Press about the
Detroit Lions . . . "I've seen
better football on Atari."
fine northwest dining nit-
ery . . . Dan has always had
top ideas and Standard Club
North is about the first
place he can really put them
to use with any degree be-
cause of it being a private
club whose members
throughout the years have
always enjoyed variety in
social endeavors.
RON CODEN SHOW is
at Mountain Jacks on
Rochester Rd. in Troy .. .
Wednesday through Satur-
day til Jan. 29.
LOTS OF GOOD
THINGS always going on
those luscious desserts now
at the Lemon Peel . . . N.
Hunter in Birmingham .. .
made by on-the-premises
pastry chef Harold Smith
. . . mousse paffaits, grand
marnier flan, chocolate
mousse torte, peach brandy
torte with walnuts, huge
chocolate covered New Zea-
land strawberries,
cheesecake, strawberry car-
tier cake with chocolate
mousse filling, etc.
John and Fran Kales
have come a long way with
their Lemon Peel restau-
rant and lounge that now
boasts 38 employees . . . The
colorful Broadway show
posters are still on the walls
of an all-booth dining area
. . . and another wall now
has a collection of theatrical
books from major theaters
and shows around the coun-
try.
A recent visit there was
most revealing with compe-
tent, courteous waiter Rod
Nicholson bringing us de-
licious plates of lamb chops
and calves liver . . . John
and Fran, one or the other,
or both, are always at
Lemon Peel overseeing the
popular rise of their place.
at the Standard Club North
. . . Like Dec. 18 . . . when
the Northwestern Hwy.
spot will take folks to the
Big Apple . . . and The Stars
of Broadway . . . with 42nd
Street and The Great White
Way having folks coming
along to listen to hit Broad-
way music . . . Should be fun
as the magical Broadway
comes to Standard Club
North.
Many new ideas being in-
corporated into the scheme
of things at Standard Club
North is resulting in grow-
ing membership and more
use of facilities for the con-
tinuous flow of social fun .. .
plus a place members can
call their own . . . with more
pride.
New manager at
Standard Club North is Dan
Lyons, who many folks will
remember as general man-
ager of the London Chop

PERFORMING THE
role of Fagin -in "Oliver!" at
Birmingham Theater., Jack
Carter gives life to an
otherwise drab character
who teaches London waifs
to pick pockets . . . You
know its Carter . . . who al-
though a very fine serious
dramatic actor . . . is best
known for his comedic ap-
pearances . . . and you can't
help but snicker within
even when he's delivering a
serious line.
Jack also sings with
touches of cantorial intona-
tions, which prompted De-
troit News critic Jay Carr to
write that as Fagin he is
like "A Tevye gone wrong."
The cast of "Oliver!" . . .
which runs through Jan. 2
. . . will bring holiday cheer
to about 40 youngsters who
might not otherwise have
too much to cheer about this
holiday season . . . From
4:30 to 6:30 . . . this Tuesday
. . . youngsters from St. Vin-
cent and Sarah Fisher Cen-
ter will join the "Oliver!"
cast for a tree trimming
party followed by a matinee
performance . . . The two
homes give 24-hour resi-
dential care and treatment
for neglected, abused emo-
tionally disturbed, pre-
delinquent boys and girls of
all races and creeds.
