THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Youth Basketball Program Begins Sunday at the Center The Jewish Community Center will begin its youth basketball program Sunday at the main Center complex in West Bloomfield. The 10-week program will begin at 3 p.m. for chil- dren in third through sixth grades and at 4 p.m. for seventh and eighth graders. The program will not meet on Dec. 19 and 26. The co-ed instructional program will develop into a league. Burt Hurshe is the coordinator of the program, and he will be assisted by members of the Center's varsity basketball team. Participants in the program will play in an all-star game prior to a Detroit Spirits game on Jan. 16. There is a fee, and non- members are welcome. Entry fee includes a team shirt. Julius Chajes will be on the podium. Varani is a pro- fessor at Oakland Univer- sity and has performed throughout the U.S. and South America. He will per- form Mozart's Piano Con- certo No. 21 and Chopin's Piano Sonata in B flat Minor. The concert will open with Suite "In Modo Antico" for strings by Julius Chajes.
