A Nosanchuk social func-
tion developed into a com-
munity fete attracting
nationwide attention.
Yakov and Chayke —
Jacob and Ida — Nosanchuk
were celebrating their 75th
wedding anniversary, and
the assembled 250 guests
included some 100 who were
either themselves Nosan-
chuks or members of the
family by marriage or a bit
remotely. Guests came from
_ two privinces in Canada, a
dozen cities in five states in
this country.
The interest aroused by
the unusualness of a couple
married for three-quarters
of a century drew acclaim
from 17 major Jewish
movements. Each was re-
presented by a prominent
person, and they collec-
tively provided acclaim for
an occasion that occurs very
seldom in human experi-
ence.
In fact, the Guiness Re-
cords show that the
longest period of a mar-
ried life in the world re-
cords is 81 years. When
Yakov _Nosanchuk was
told about it, the 94-
year-old celebrant, who
remains active, drives his
car in the daytime,
attends synagogue serv-
ices regularly, said: "I
think we'll make it ..."
and there was a nod from
92-year-old Ida.

Dr. Joseph Nosanchuk,
the celebrants' son, greeted
the guests and family, wel-
comed the organizational
representatives, and before
he had concluded reading
the list of movements and
organizations — all of them
on the supporting list of the
Nosanchuks' generosity —
he began to receive notes
that there were many other
smaller groups who wished
to be included among those
greeting the Nosanchuks on
such an historic occasion.
Added to the unusual in
this event was its five-
generational aspect. There-
fore the genealogical appli-
cation emerged of added
interest. Dr. Joseph Nosan-
chuk's daughter, the celeb-
rants' granddaughter, Be-
- verly (Mrs. Alfred) Toboc-
man recited a script she had
written defining the
genealogical, listing chil-
dren, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren.
