The evening also will include a Hanuka candlelighting ceremony conducted by Cantor Louis Klein of Cong. Bnai Moshe. Traditional refreShments Editor, The Jewish News: The Nov. 12 Readers Forum contained a letter captioned, "JDL Strong- Arming Hit." It stated that during a forum held at the Birmingham Temple on the subject of "The Crisis in the Middle East," people iden- tified as members of the Jewish Defense League acted in" anunruly fashion and made threats to carry out malicious property damage. I too attended that forum and found that "unruly" be- havior was at a minimum, and that members of the audience only intended to present a point of view not advocated by either speaker. That point raised by the audience was that New Jewish Agenda, apparently a pseudo-Zionist group, was more concerned with the plight of Arabs than the welfare tf Jews and the se- curity of the state of Israel, and that creating an other Arab state on the West Bank would put hostile neighbors only 15 miles from downtown Tel Aviv. I later learned that in an attempt by the Bir- mingham Temple to sup- press freedom of expres- sion and "the diversity of opinion that exists in the Jewish community," Rabbi Meir Kahane's ap- pearance at that facility was denied. In addition, I do not feel that empty ac- cusations lacking con- crete evidence serves any purpose in placing any individual or group on trial in the newspaper. I, for one, don't always agree with the philosophy or Rabbi Kahane or all of the tactics of the JDL, but I admire them for exhibiting pride in being Jewish and combatting a spiritual MSU Hillel Events Told Bnai Brith Hillel Jewish Student Center at Michigan State University will hear Prof. *Sharon Fineman Nemser speak on "What's Wrong With Jewish Educa- tion" 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3. A women's service and Havdala will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at the Hillel Cen- ter. A community book fair will be held noon-4 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Hillel Center, followed at 6 by a deli dinner and the film, "The Pawnbroker," at 7. holocaust perpetrated upon American Jewry by unin- formed rabbis that not even Hitler could accomplish. In the end, if I would have to choose between having New Jewish Agenda or JDL on my side, I vote for JDL.
