Children's Jewish Book Shelves Expanding

The children's book
shelves have gained a nota-
ble increase in titles and
contents on Jewish subjects.
A number of new chil-
dren's books have been pub-
lished by the Jewish Publi-
cation Society of America.
The day school movement
inspired publication of
books dealing with the holi-
days and Jewish historical
experiences.
Holiday House adds a
number of attractive
books to the Jewish chil-
dren's library. Its "Suk-
kot" by Malka Drucker
has special merit for text
and illustrations. Photo-
graphs and drawings by
Brom Hoban add im-
mense value to this holi-
day book.
Feldheim Publishers cur-
rently earn special atten-
tion with a series of works
that will delight young
readers and will gain
acclaim also from adults
who share them with the
youth when reading them to
children or with them.
"Who Knows One" by
Yaffa Ganz is based on the
Hagada song "Ehad Mi
Yodea." It is a large book
and its illustrations by
Harvey Klineman are as in-
spiring as the text which
enlivens the Seder and yet
makes this text valuable for
year-round reading.
Each of the stanzas is
applied to historic roles and
commandments. Thus, the
volume concludes:
Moshe Rabbeinu lived for
120 years. That's why we
say, • "May you live to be
120!" The Torah has taryag
mitzvos — 613 command-
ments. (The Hebrew letters
taryag equal the number
613.)
From Feldheim Press also
comes an adventure story
written by Eliezer Gevirtz
which describes the actions
of Binyamin Lamm who as-
pires to be a detective. The
yeshiva boy is laughed at
but when the pushke disap-
pears from his classroom
the concern over the loss
provides him with the duty
of locating it.
That's when his detective
work began. The solution
arrived at by Biyamin pro-
vides an end to the mystery.
The guilty one had also
takenthe esrog and lulay.
David's skills uncovered
what might have been a
crime but the "villain" had
