tee, will give the second
annual Elliott Whiteman
Memorial Lecture Nov. 28
at 8 p.m. at the Windsor
Jewish Community Centre.
This annual lecture is
-being provided by the late
Elliott Whiteman's family
as a continuing tribute to
his memory.
The rabbi has been a
major force in the promotion
of social justice and human
rights. At the invitation of

vestigations of the plight of
Vietnamese "boat people"
and Cambodian refugees.
He has organized many re-
lief efforts for victims of
war, refugees and the starv-
ing.

nine-hour special "Holo-
caust" and earlier
was consultant to the
special "Jesus of
Nazareth." President
Carter appointed Tanen-
baum to serve on the
advisory committee of
the President's Commis-

Rabbi Tanenbaum was
the only rabbi at Vatican
Council II and he is a foun-
der and co-secretary of the
Joint Vatican International
Jewish Consultative Com-
mittee as well as of a similar
liaison body with the World
Council of Churches. He
also participated in the first
official audience of world
Jewish leaders with Pope
John Paul II.
In March 1979, he was in-
vited to consult with Chan-
cellor Helmut Schmidt and
German parliamentary of-
ficials in Bonn on the aboli-
tion of the statute of limita-
tions on Nazi war criminals.
He has lectured at major
universities, seminaries,
religious and educational
bodies in the United States,
Europe and Israel, and at
numerous national and in-
ternational conferences.
Rabbi Tanenbaum is the
author or editor of several
published books and of
numerous articles.
