( MI! I ANSI NEWS SZ Begins Genealogy Project Cong. Shaarey Zedek has embarked on a project to col- lect family genealogical re- cords of its members to be housed in the synagogue archives. Using a "family tree" dia- gram prepared by Judy Cantor and called "The Family Story," members will record their family his- tories going back about five generations. Beatrice Mil- ler is the sponsor of the genealogy project. Information gained from the project will be com- puterized, under the direc- tion of Dr. Sidney Lutz, making the information easily retrievable. Bar and Bat Mitzva candidates are especially being involved in the project, to develop a lin- kage with the older gen- erations, Mrs. Cantor said. Betty Starkman, a genealogy specialist who teaches an introduction to Jewish genealogy at the Midrasha, offered guidelines to the Shaarey Zedek membership on how to trace one's Jewish ori- gins. A videotape on the subject is available at Shaarey Zedek. Philly Plans Anne Frank House The week of Nov. 28 will be proclaimed Anne Frank Week in Philadelphia by Mayor Bill Green, largely because of the efforts of Dr. Franklin Littell and Marcia Sachs Littell and the Na- tional Institute on the Holocaust. That week also signals the opening of the institute's fund-raising drive to establish an Anne Frank House in Philadel- phia, the first in the U.S. "The Anne Frank House will be Philadelphia's chance to be first once again," said Dr. Littell, a Methodist minister and pro- fessor of religion at Temple University, "as we were with the first monument to the • victims of the Holocaust, the first syllabus for teaching the Holocaust in public schools, and the first conference on the Holocaust which has be- come an annual event for teachers in Philadelphia." The Anne Frank House will be an interfaith project geared to schoolchildren's needs. fidat) !IMMO It N2 IT 'dearly 'toted Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter in the Bible — two sentences. 1 personalized gifts for adults and childien FOR THAT SPECIAL CHANUKAH GIFT FREE Monograms on our nylon travel accessories Offer good thru Nov. 25 with this ad 25% OFF Individual items over $10.00 Mon. & Wed. 10-2 Tues. & Thurs.
