What was most disturbing, how- ever, was that after the event one of the speakers received a direct threat in front of witnesses from a member of the JDL regard- ing the possibility of malici- ous damage being done to the speaker's property. Dur- ing the course of the week, what was threatened took place. We, the undersigned, want to call attention to this incident not as specific corroborating witnesses, but out of a general concern for de- cency and reason. Threats, intimidation and violence have no place in the Jewish com- munity. Efforts to get at the different perspec- tives on any one issue can not be deterred by hooliganism. We deplore the actions of those who would stifle dis- cussion and threaten and assault fellow Jews. Fi- nally, we must ask our- selves, if Jews resort to in- timidation and violence against other Jews, are they not doing then the work of anti-Semites? d
