Flood Victims Aided by JDC

NEW YORK (JTA) — A
contribution of $10,000 for
the emergency purchase of
relief supplies for Tunisians
made homeless by recent
torrential rains and flood-
ing was announced by
Henry Taub, president of
the American Jewish Joint
Distribution Committee.
JDC executive vice
president Ralph Goldman
reported the small Jewish
community in Sfax was
"well and safe," and the rest
of the 6,000 Jews of Tunisia,
most of whom live in the city

of Tunis, were not directly
affected by the flooding.

AJC to Appeal
Ruling to Arab
Holdings in U.S.

NEW YORK (JTA) —
The American Jewish Con-
gress says it will appeal a
federal district court ruling
that upheld a Treasury De-
partment refusal to disclose
records showing the dollar
holdings of Saudi Arabia,
Kuwait and the United
Arab Emirates in the
United States.
In a decision handed
down Oct. 26, Judge Bar-
rington Parker of the U.S.
District Court for the Dis-
trict of Columbia held that
the Treasury Department
was not required to divulge
such information. But he
agreed that the Jewish
organization was probably
correct in charging that the
OPEC countries were being
given "special preferential
treatment."

Terrorists Kill
Own Leader

JERUSALEM — The
commander of the PLO ter-
rorists in southern Leba-
non, Azmi Zair, was found
dead in an orchard shortly
after the Israel invasion of
Lebanon. He was believed
to have been killed by his
own men, according to a
Maariv report.
One of the planners of the
attack on an Israeli bus in
1978 in which 38 Israelis
were killed, Zair was known
to have terrorized Moslem
and Christian residents of
Tyre for years, subjecting
them to murder, extortion,
torture, public humiliation
and sexual acts.

Check Writing
Made Easier
for Sightless

TEL AVIV — A plastic
template with bank spaces
corresponding to the lines
on personal checks has been
introduced by Bank Leumi
le-Israel to assist blind
clients.
Blind persons able to
write legibly can use the
template to "feel" where
they should write the date,
amount, payee, signature
and the information on the
stub.
