The large audience applauded the dec- laration of ZOD President Irving Laker that it also marked Detroit Jewry's dedication to unity in sup- port of Israel. With Max Sosin com- mencing the festivities with a greeting that summarized the significance of the occa- sion, the program featured the young Philadelphia vio- linist Daniel Phillips and the popular Israeli signer Geula Gill. introductory Sosin's acclaim for Phillips was jus- tified by the skill he dis- played with his Tzigane by Ravel. He received an ova- tion for his interpretive skills. His accompanist was Charles Abramovic. Gill Geula strengthened her popu- larity here, having gained many friends in a previous appearance, and it was evident that she had mastered the art of staging, of interpreta- tion, of lending power to the traditional Hebrew, as well as the Yiddish. Her comments were applicable to two events, to her seven-week tour of Rus- sia, during which she gained the hearts of thousands of Russian Jews with her "Sheyibane Beth S.
