Shaarey Zedek on Wednesday evening, the event marked several com- mitments: It served the primary purpose of acclaiming the evening's honorees, Irving and Florence Hermelin; It increased interest in and support for the cause of Is- rael Bonds; Cong. Shaarey Zedek gained status as a leading sponsor of the cause in- volving economic sup- port for Israel. In the process, the younger Hermelin, David, who is national co- chairman of the Israel Bond Organization and a leader in major Jewish philan- thropic and cultural move- ments, was acclaimed for his supporting role in causes providing defensive means for Israel. Wednesday's dinner fea- tured a long address by Jack Anderson, nationally syn- dicated columnist, who de- rided federal inefficiencies, especially the Pentagon, of- fering advice that Israeli skills could solve the American problems.
